Citizen Statesmanship & Activism
Salt and Light Global's Center for Conscience responds to government and other actions that seek to suppress, ban, or punish the free exercise of religious conscience and other unalienable liberties. Here we challenge the Christian Community to exercise, in Christian love, First Amendment freedoms via citizen statesmanship and direct civil engagement. We actively encourage Christians to engage the cultural worldview of the day in the public square.

Deploying “Citizen Sentinels” to Monitor Government Action Affecting Unalienable Liberty

The Center monitors and impacts government actions affecting unalienable liberty (i.e., right to life, freedom of expression, the free exercise of religious conscience etc.)  For example, “Citizen Sentinels” track federal and state legislation, regulations, executive orders and enforcement measures, as well as federal and state judicial opinions. This part of the Center also works with other organizations to monitor international legal developments affecting freedom of religious conscience.

Deploying “Citizen Statesmen” to Respond to Efforts to Suppress, Ban, or Punish the Free Exercise of Religious Conscience

The Center actively challenges the Christian community to engage the cultural worldview of the day in the public square – especially when government or academic authorities take action to suppress, ban, or punish the free exercise of religious conscience.  This may, for example, include testifying at legislative hearings, submitting official comments to proposed executive regulations, etc.  It may also include, when warranted, organizing the Christian community to exercise First Amendment Freedoms via peaceful protests.
